What studies are there supporting the effectiveness of Off2Class?

We are proud to share details of how our educational materials have helped students progress.

Off2Class is a research-backed platform that has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness in improving learner outcomes and supporting teachers. Several studies and reports validate the impact of Off2Class across different educational contexts:

  1. Improving Learner Outcomes:
A recent international program, targeting pre-arrival newcomers in conflict zones, evaluated 289 students using Off2Class. Of those tested, 98% demonstrated measurable progress, advancing at least the equivalent of one WIDA proficiency level after a 30-week virtual program. This highlights the platform’s capacity to drive English proficiency in vulnerable populations through targeted instruction, even in challenging environments.

  2. Supporting Teachers:
Off2Class is designed to help educators work more efficiently. A poll of over 500 teachers revealed that teachers using Off2Class saved an average of 12.5 hours per week. This time saving is crucial in allowing educators to focus more on teaching and student interaction, enhancing overall classroom effectiveness.

  3. Validated English Placement Testing:
In Spring 2023, a pilot validity study compared the Off2Class English Placement Test results for 154 adult learners with their TOEFL scores. The study found a strong correlation (r = .68, p < .05) between the two tests, confirming the reliability of Off2Class' Placement Test as a measure of English proficiency across different levels.

  4. School District Success Stories:
Off2Class has been instrumental in helping school districts address challenges in ELL engagement and program development, as reported by New America:

    • In Putnam, Oklahoma, Off2Class was used to quickly implement a summer "head start" program for newcomers, despite limited staffing and budget. The program achieved an 88% participation rate, with all students passing a required citizenship test and showing improvements in conversational English.
    • In Tulsa, Oklahoma, Off2Class partnered with high-quality online tutors to support Afghan newcomers. The district reported significant gains in conversational English and high satisfaction from both students and parents, with teachers noting particularly strong progress among students with prior English exposure.
  5. Evidence-Based Practices:
Off2Class meets Level IV requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), as validated by an independent research organization, Learn Platform. Furthermore, Off2Class was highlighted by the British Educational Suppliers Association and Educate Ventures Research as an example of best practice in evidence-based educational technology in the 2023 report, The State of Evidence in Edtech.

  6. Ongoing Research:
Off2Class is currently part of a three-arm randomized control trial (RCT) with district partners in Richland 2, South Carolina. Conducted under the Call to Effective Action 2024 cohort program, this study is assessing the effectiveness of Off2Class' Foundational Literacy Curriculum on driving WIDA outcomes from 2024 to 2025. The results of this RCT will further contribute to the growing body of research supporting Off2Class’ efficacy.

Off2Class' commitment to research-backed solutions ensures that it delivers measurable benefits to both learners and educators, making it a trusted tool in the field of English language instruction.
