What is TOEFL?

TOEFL iBT® (Test of English as a Foreign Language – Internet-Based Test) is a globally recognized assessment that measures a learner’s ability to use and understand English in academic and campus-life contexts. It evaluates four core skills—Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing—and is commonly required for admission to universities, colleges, and professional programs where English is the language of instruction.

In May 2025, ETS announced an updated version of TOEFL iBT® for January 2026, details of which can be found here. These updated Off2Class TOEFL lessons are designed to prepare students for the updated test format, content, and structure.

Target students

The TOEFL lesson series is designed for:

  • Upper-intermediate to advanced English learners
  • Students planning to study, train, or work in an English-medium academic environment
  • Learners preparing specifically for the TOEFL iBT® test
  • Teachers delivering structured TOEFL preparation courses

Key features

  • Full coverage of all TOEFL iBT® sections and task types
  • Explicit instruction on question formats, and test strategies
  • Scaffolded practice progressing from guided to independent tasks
  • Academic and campus-life contexts aligned with ETS guidance
  • Review lessons to consolidate skills and exam technique

Note: ETS has confirmed that the final TOEFL iBT test format will not be finalized until late January 2026. These lessons may be updated after release to remain fully aligned. Once the new series is finalized, TOEFL lessons from 2023 will be removed from the platform
