Target students
These lessons are for students with a lower proficiency level who need to develop their reading
skills. Newcomers are the primary audience for these lessons, but long-term English learners
and others who want to build their fundamental reading skills can benefit from them. Lessons in
this series targets WIDA Entering/CEFR A1 (12 lessons) and WIDA Emerging/CEFR A2 (12
lessons).
Key features
All lessons in this series are based around the following elements:
- Level-appropriate texts: Reading texts in this series feature vocabulary and grammar suitable for the proficiency level of the students. This makes the challenge of reading an achievable and enjoyable one.
- Meaningful context: Each reading text is placed within a meaningful context and supported by attractive visuals helping students to explore the content of the texts.
- Range of reading skills: Lessons develop and practice their perceptive, selective, interactive, and extensive reading skills by completing a range of different pre-, during-, and post-reading activities.
- Opportunities to respond: Each lesson in the series provides students with opportunities to respond to the content of the texts, both orally and in writing, and develop meaning.
- Relevant topics: All lessons in the series cover an engaging topic that is relevant to the lives of students helping to make reading meaningful to them.
