What are Conditions & Wishes lessons?
Conditions & Wishes is a targeted set of lessons focused on developing learners' ability to use
conditional structures and express hypothetical or imagined situations. These lessons build a
bridge between grammar accuracy and real-world communication, especially for discussing future
possibilities, habits, and dreams. The series is designed as flexible, standalone lessons for teachers
to dip in and out of as needed to support their students. The series covers:
- Zero Conditional – Expressing facts and general truths (e.g., “If you heat water, it boils”)
- First Conditional – Talking about real and possible future events (e.g., “If I study, I will pass”)
- Second Conditional – Expressing unreal or hypothetical situations in the present or future
(e.g., “If I won the lottery, I would travel the world”) - Third and Mixed Conditional - Reflecting on past events (e.g., “If I had left sooner, I wouldn’t
have been late” or “If I had read the book, I would know the answer”) - Wish Structures (Present and Past) – Communicating regrets and desires about different
time frames (e.g., “I wish I had more time” or “I wish I hadn’t said that”) - Conditionals for Advice and Superstitions – Using conditional grammar in context to give
suggestions or discuss cultural beliefs - Contrast of Conditional Types – Differentiating real vs. unreal conditions and practicing
accurate usage - Practical application through writing and speaking tasks – Including personal goal-setting,
giving advice, discussing habits, and imagining alternate realities
